The Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia (ROMCA) has grown to be one of the world's most distinctive and celebrated vocal ensembles. Founded in 2016 by Musical Director Nektary Kotlaroff, ROMCA has established itself as a preeminent force in the interpretation and preservation of Russian Orthodox sacred music and Slavic folk songs.
Acclaimed for its profound sonority and rare vocal range, featuring soaring tenors, velvet baritones and basses, and some of the lowest-pitched voices ever recorded commonly referred to as basso profundos or oktavists, ROMCA has garnered international recognition for its uniquely powerful sound. The exceptional basso profundo timbre, combined with disciplined musicianship and deep cultural understanding, places ROMCA among the most iconic music ensembles globally.
With Australian-born singers of predominantly Russian heritage drawn from all capital cities across Australia, ROMCA is a national ensemble with a global voice. It has performed to critical and public acclaim across Australia, Europe, and USA, appearing in major concert halls, festivals, and international festivals. Its repertoire spans from ancient Orthodox chants and polyphonic hymns to vibrant choral arrangements of traditional Russian and Slavic folk music, performed with authenticity and artistic excellence.
